Description

Offered for sale is a 1987 944 Turbo (951) with 21,000 original miles. Condition and mileage put this example into the "beyond excellent" category as evidenced in the photos below. This is a great opportunity to add an extremely rare example to your Porsche collection, use for PCA concours and other events, or enjoy in any way you like. The original 1987 sticker price was $42,674.00. So, for substantially less that the cost of a new Toyota or Honda you can own a car in time-capsule condition, stunning good looks and pure Porsche performance. This car is capable of top speeds in excess of 150 MPH and handles like, well, a Porsche!

The original Maraschino Red Metallic (code: LY3V) exterior paint was an extra-cost option and is combined with a special order Cashmere and Black interior. The front sport seats, with electrical height adjustments, are full-leather (as are the back seats). The car has the highly-desirable limited-slip differential (220) option. The wheels are 16" BBS "RS" wheels. While not original equipment, these are premium 3-piece, forged, lightweight wheels that were found on many high-performance cars of the era, including quite a few Porsche 930 Turbo's. These wheels are far superior to the original-equipment cast alloy “phone dial” wheels. However, if desired, it would a simple matter to install correct factory wheels as they are widely available and relatively inexpensive. (Note: the 1987 951 also uses “late offset” Porsche wheel specs and it is therefore possible to fit a wide variety of Porsche factory wheels, including the modern “Turbo Twist,” style and many others.)

Other non-stock items include an aftermarket stereo system, consisting of a Clarion head unit with built-in single-CD player and an Alpine amplifier and Kenwood speakers mounted in the rear hatch (see pictures). Also installed by a previous owner are a *second* alarm system--an "UNGO Box," and a mechanical locking hood latch. Both of these items could be fairly easily removed from the car if desired.

Maintenance and History

The car was purchased about eight months ago by a Porsche lover and 951 enthusiast with 19,000 miles on it. He had the timing and balance shaft belts replaced and adjusted as preventive maintenance as the previous owner had not done this. Car was checked out, tuned up and has been driven very sparingly since. Garage kept, there are NO oil leaks apparent on car undercarriage or the garage floor. Belts and hoses and rubber moldings are pliable and in fine condition. The present owner's mechanic claims the engine compartment and overall condition of the car are the best he's ever seen for a non-museum or a 100-point concours car. The tires are Toyo Proxes V-rated all-season with less than 5,000 miles.

Mileage is verified by Carfax and Autocheck reports, copies of which are available to prospective buyers. There is a copy/photograph of the original window sticker, but no other documented history at this time. Carfax and registration records indicate the car has had 4 owners (with a Porsche dealership in between the 3rd and present owner). First recorded mileage was 13.7K in 1992, on the occasion of a title change. Between 1992 and 2003 mileage went to 15,268. Then purchased by an auto broker on the east coast and sold to a Porsche dealership on the west coast, per the dealership. Dealership also stated that they had been told the car had been “in a collection,” but have no further documentation. Carfax records and condition of car support this conclusion, but no documentation discovered. The car was then sold to a first-time Porsche buyer, who enjoyed the car for less than a year and put an additional 4,000 miles on it, but then decided that it didn't fit into his lifestyle when he got married. The present owner "rescued" the car when it appeared on the market and would like to see the car go to an enthusiast who can appreciate the car as true survivor and hopefully keep it as such into the future.

The asking price has been determined by CarShowing.com following an extensive market research at the national level. The vehicle is priced very competitively considering the extremely low mileage and excellent condition. (For example, an older (1986) 951 with slightly fewer miles, but far fewer options sold on eBay for $18,000.) If you find a better deal for a similar car, please let us know.

Old Text: This 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo 951 is a rarity by itself. It has the lowest mileage on the market and a condition that is beyond excellent for such a classic sports car.

Its 21,000 mileage is the original one for both the body and engine. The only parts that were replaced are the timing and balance shaft belts but this was as a preventive maintenance. This car belongs to a Porsche lover and connoisseur who specializes in 944s.

It has multiple options, some rare to find like full leather for both front and rear seats and a limited slip differential. It has 16" BBS lightweight forged wheels with the tires in very good condition. The audio system is a Clarion with an Alpine amplifier.

A Carfax report attesting of the original miles is available.

If you know about the Porsche 944 sports cars, this rare jewel might be the one you have been waiting for so long.
